Thymus serpyllum / Creeping Thyme

Thymus serpyllum
'Albus'

This turned out to be a real charmer. I was surprised at how pretty the flowers are.

Shear once a year in early Spring, and again lightly after flowering.

Thyme creeps around the steps going into the gravel garden, and has spread well. Here's a view of the area, with the thyme filling in around the bluestone steps.

I have to cut back the edges that creep over the bluestone steps several times. A pair of scissors works fine to cut the thin foliage.

On the other side of the arbor gate, the thyme has spread out into the gravel. It's happiest in hot dry places, and it covers the metal edging between the gravel and the garden border.
