Picea / Oriental Spruce

Planted in spring 2011. This is a dwarf Picea orientalis 'Gracilis' that I got at Farmington Valley Nursery.  It is planted at the side of the arbor gate to the gravel garden.

It should grow very slowly to about three or four feet tall and wide, with a graceful shape.  To keep it from encroaching too much on the gate structure, I prune off new spiky growth each spring and keep it a tidier shape.
