The Gardens

Colchicum / Autumn crocus

Colchicum
speciosum 'Album'
some unnamed ones from Cyndy's garden

Planted 'Album' along the front walk. Tiny white fall blooming crocuses. But I'm not impressed, they are little and wispy and hardly there.

Here is one of the little 'Album' crocuses coming up through the kinnikinnik along the front walk.  They are few and isolated, but cute.

In 2011 I put the gift colchcums from Cyndy's garden in the Birch Garden, and they seem a little heartier and sturdier. Those are a delicate pink that goes beautifully with the amethyst caryopteris that blooms in September at the same time.

Very sweet.

You have to catch them just as they bloom, and it takes some looking to notice. The pink crocus in the Birch Garden blooms pink, but fades to purple by the time I notice the tattered flowers.
