Bergenia / Pigsqueak

Bergenia
'Rosi Klose'
'Bressingham Ruby'
'Pink Dragonfly'

Shiny, glossy beautiful deep green leaves.  A clumper that stays low and offers a beautiful broad foliage contrast to the narrower leaves of other groundcovers and plants.

The flowers are delicate pink stalks that come out in early spring when the persisting foliage is still ratty looking, so it's not a great effect.

Bergenia is better in summer when the foliage is the main attraction.

They haven't done well for me, and only a few are left along the bluestone west walk under the St. Johnswort. I'm not sure which varieties remain now.
