Tilia cordata / Linden

Planted in spring 2007.

This tree is no longer in my yard, but I want to document it.  It was 'Greenspire' planted by Bartlett to replace the Norway maple that died.  It was a very large and expensive specimen.  In 2008 bucks rubbed the bark raw and it completely separated from the inner bark.  Eventually it would die, although it was still leafing out in 2009
Here it is in 2009, after the deer damage

No hope.  2009

2009

'Greenspire' stays strongly pyramidal, with a dense canopy and good yellow fall color and beautiful blooms in June.  It did have nice fall color the first year.  It got Japanese beetles in early summer, but was not badly affected.  It really was a pretty tree, very dense and pyramidal even as a young tree.

Here's the linden in the cul de sac circle in 2010.  It also has antler rub damage, but the bark formed a callus and it seems to be ok.  Every fall I wrap it in plastic mesh.
