The Gardens

Acer platanoides / Norway Maple

'Crimson King' Norway maple -- two were planted by the builder in 2004 in front of every new yard in the whole development, but many have been lost.  We lost one, but the tree by the driveway is thriving.

All were planted too deep. They do not get fall color, the leaves just turn brown, kind of scorched looking. Bartlett did a root collar excavation in 2007.

I took off several lower branches in 2012, and that gives it a slightly more open trunk.

By 2014 the garden along the driveway had filled in and the big dark Norway maple actually added a strong punctuation point to the end.

I have limbed up the bottom branches quite a bit, and just doing that lightens the look of this tree, at least at eye level. It also allows a little more light in under the dense canopy.

By 2015 it was starting to have some real presence, anchoring the end of the driveway garden.
