Picea abies / Bird's Nest Spruce

Planted two in summer 2004.

These are 'Nidiformis', the low growing flat spruces that look like nests, with a slightly depressed spot in the center.  The builder put them in at the corner of the garage and under the dogwood, flanking the start of the front walk.

They are very slow growing, but eventually spread quite wide, certainly too wide for the narrow edges of the walk.

April 25, 2012

After ten years, they came out in 2015. They still looked good, but are overgrew the walk.

So in April 2015 the Birds Nest spruces came out and were transplanted to the berm where two of the big spruces had been taken out.
4/28/15 - room to spread out in big circles now, as they want to

They transplanted well, but throughout the summer of 2015 they developed a lot of browning on top. I watered them well, but then in the very dry summer of 2016 I lost one and had to take it out. One remains on the right end of the berm, but has a lot of browned out areas.
