The Gardens

Cornus florida var. rubra / Flowering Dogwood

Planted in summer 2004.

This tree was planted by the builder at the corner of the garage.  I don't know the cultivar. It has been an outstanding focal point at the front of the house.

Some years the flowering is sparse and other years it's better.  In 2015 a hard spring frost got all the buds and it did not bloom at all. Fall color is spectacular. There are sparkly red berries in late fall.

Bartlett treats it every year for anthracnose.

When the scarlet leaves are all finally down in early December, the berries shine like red jewels.

It's pretty in spring but I like it best in fall.
Beautiful in bloom

It has reached the point where its small round shape really does anchor the side of the house now.
