Boltonia asteroides var. latisquama 'Jim Crockett'

One didn't make it. They are from Whiteflower Farm, and are a dwarf, compact form of the tall wild boltonias. They do look just like asters.
I lost one over the summer, but the remaining one bloomed in September.
It's a small mound, about 18 inches high, and the aster like flowers are tiny and pale.
The flowers are profuse but very pale, and the little boltonia is outshone by the deeper purple of the big clump of fragrant aster nearby. But it is a nice filler along the border of the gravel garden.

Boltonia can have a billowy effect, even this smaller one.

To keep it tidy looking I need to stake it all around, or it flops open.
