Physostegia
virginiana 'Miss Manners'Ex plants
This one stays in bounds, not invasive as other Obedient plants can be. It is clump forming and will tolerate wet soil, so I put it in the middle of the wet area in Meadow's Edge. It has done well there, and I have divided it to get more.
The frilly white spires are a wonderful foil to the other plants (especially the pink coneflowers, but they were removed in 2010.)

I'd like this stand to expand for more impact in early summer. Very pretty flower, and a nice neutral structure in the garden.
2011 - a nice clump has formed, filling the space. The purple coneflowers are gone, and I miss the pink and white contrast, but the physostegia is pretty on its own.
Still there in 2012, but it needs some contrasting plants to make the pretty white flower spikes noticeable.

In 2013 these obedient plants were gone. They had made such a lovely, white stand of frilly upright spikes, and they were filling in nicely in 2011. But by 2013 there were none to be seen. They just didn't come up.
Are they ex-plants now?
How I miss these. In 2014 there were one or two plants that sent up a spike or two, but not much to see.
I'd love to attempt them again -- but should I try another spot? Or use the typically aggressive species physostegia that spread like crazy, since in this spot 'Miss Manners' simply didn't spread at all?
