Lupinus / Lupine

Lupinus
'Chandelier'

'Chandelier' is clear yellow, very striking at the edge of the Birch Garden.  But in 2011 it was more to the center of the garden, still a striking yellow candle, but brief and quickly lost among the other emerging things.

I also put a species lupine from the back hill in the Meadow’s Edge garden, which have purple spikes.  They were from a wildflower seed packet.

In 2012 'Chandelier' is gone, and the lupines I transplanted in Meadow's Edge are gone, but the wild lupines on the back hill are spreading and look wonderful.

The purple lupines on the back hill were still there in 2013.

And again, in 2014, the sweep of lupines and daisies spilling down the hill in back are just lovely in May. Hard to photograph, though. They are natural, and wild looking and they just fit the hillside.

But what was I thinking when I planted this? I don't even know what cultivar it is. In 2014 I planted this candy colored lupine in the Birch Garden and immediately disliked it.

I got it at one of the local nurseries on a day in spring when I was lamenting that there was a bare area in front of the Birch Garden that needed color. Well, it's colorful.

Hmmm, not sure I even saw this magenta lupine in 2015.
