unknown red variety
Biennial, or short lived perennial. Deadhead (or shear back if large) to promote perennial tendency. Or let it reseed for more.
'Sooty' has very dark chocolately colored blooms, intense dark red.
'Sooty' is an unfortunate name, but a lovely plant in this complex layered part of the Birch Garden.
I also planted another unknown bright red dianthus that came in a wildflower seed packet; I'm not sure what variety that is.
They are both vivid, rich plants, but get lost in the chaos of the Birch Garden. I'm not even sure they are there any more, they seem to have died out.
