unknown dark red cultivar
x arendsii 'Bridal Veil'
The unknown plants were growing in Pam’s garden in dry sand (they need rich moist humus). I put them at the very back of the north side garden, the only place that gets shade most of the time, although at the height of summer it's sunny.
They are actually behind the sweetbay magnolia tree, and they offer a little light lacy color between the tree and the house.
They were very underdeveloped and spindly when I took them out of Pam's garden. I added lots of compost in 2008 when I transplanted them, and in the following year they filled out beautifully.
They have deep red flowers, almost maroon. I wish I knew the name of the cultivar.

There are now two left, and they are behind the low wall of the patio under the 'Bloodgood' red Japanese maple.
