Anemone
virginianatomentosa 'Robustissima'
The pretty white blooms on tall slender stalks is the native thimbleweed, Anemone virginiana. A very sweet looking plant to enjoy close up. It blooms in mid summer, then the seed heads remain on the stiff stems for interest all fall and winter.
Anemone tomentosa 'Robustissima' is a charming pink windflower, with a mass of delicate blooms in late summer. It has a very elegant look, and is a pretty contrast with the sturdier blackeyed Susans.
The foliage is a nice rounded mound of grape like leaves, giving it the name Grapeleaf anemone.

Thimbleweed has spread all through the garden under the maple tree.
The Grapeleaf anemone by the patio wall continues to be a star and simply cannot take a bad picture.

Even after the pretty blooms go by, I like the flowerless stalks. I did have to prune this anemone quite a bit in 2013 to keep the flopping stems from laying down across the entrance to the yard.

In 2014 I started noticing runners moving out around the patio entrance and spreading under the anemone plant. I pull them up and hope to control this from spreading. It's pretty and perfect for its spot by the patio but I don't need it to get too large.

As always, a reliably beautiful and photogenic plant, and 2015 was no exception. I do need to keep after the runners that are spreading into the lawn and even into the opening area to the patio.
