Planted 'Forest Pansy' in spring 2012 in the blueberry garden strip in the back yard.
'Forest Pansy' is the popular purple leaved redbud, and I got a 5 gallon plant from Twin Nurseries in Canton.
It has never bloomed much, and one year did not have any flowers at all. Winter dieback has made this tree smaller and smaller each year. Not reliably winter hardy here until mature, perhaps.
Prune off the killed branches each spring.
Leaves come out bright red, then turn dark wine purple. In summer they turn green and copper, and are kind of jell toned, a very nice effect.
Unreliable fall color, although one year it turned orange gold.

Later in the summer the deep red turns mixed jewel tones, and then russety.

In 2013 the tiny pink blooms appeared in early May. They are a light lavender pink, but very sparse. Not a good bloomer yet.

Then tiny red leaf hearts appear in mid May, just as the blueberry blossoms below it open up.

By Memorial Day all the red leaves have opened fully and are a deep wine red. In mid June it is a dramatic punch of red against all the green.

Red leaves in spring are bright crimson.

2016 was very dry, but the redbud looked okay, however it didn't have any fall color, and lost its leaves early. It was completely bare by Halloween, silhouetted against the big red maple.

Winter always takes a toll on this redbud, and with its sparse blooms, late leafing out, diminished size after so much branch dieback, and then early leaf drop in fall, I am not sure it's going to last.
