The Gardens

Lobelia cardinalis / Cardinal Flower

7/27/12
Lobelia cardinalis

I have planted many, starting in 2010, but only have a few left at the back of the Birch Garden on the right side. They are hard to keep going in my gardens.

Lobelia needs constant moisture.  It will do well in full sun, but keep it wet, wet, wet.  It will self seed, but won’t come true.  But, since plants are short-lived, let them reseed.

To get more of the specific plants, divide the clumps every few years.

Cardinal flowers really are a beautiful red, and they attract hummingbirds.
