Achillea / Yarrow

6/23/2010
Achillea millefolium
'Red Beauty'
'Summer Pastels'
'Paprika'

Note: these are ex-plants.  They struggled with some of our wet seasons.  I got some good blooms for a while, but in the long run they did not do well.  They are gone now.

Likes very dry sandy soil.  Do not fertilize.

Red ones are a nice rosy color, but the pastels are a washed out white.  Will slowly spread by rhizomes and can naturalize into substantial colonies over time.

It's probably too wet in my garden and these don’t do well.  They are forming a nice stand now, but not really thriving.   After bloom they are a little crisp and ratty looking, I cut them back in summer after flowering.

(Growing Yarrow in soil heavily amended with SAND on the East Coast will make a big difference. The 'hybrids' also have more oomph on the East Coast rather than cultivars of A. millefolium.)
