The Gardens

Parrotia persica / Persian Ironwood

Planted 'Vanessa' in spring 2013

I got a 3 gallon container from Broken Arrow. This is planted at the back edge of the driveway garden, between the Norway maple and the variegated sweetgum at the center of the strip. It is paired with the 'Mariesii' doublefile viburnum that is directly next to / below it.

Here, out of focus, I can see this upright tree holding its spot between the growing doublefile viburnum on the left of this garden, and the variegated sweetgum to its right. This gives an idea of where it is positioned.

Not much fall color in 2014, and by late fall it was brown. Such a nice shape, though, and growing fast.

In 2015 it grew rapidly, and is actually a visible leafy presence in the driveway garden.

It had a hint of nice color in late fall, but not dramatic. I'll be interested to see if maturity gives it the brighter fall foliage it is known for. It is definitely developing the narrow profile 'Vanessa' is known for.
