Aurinia / Basket of Gold

Aurinia saxatilis

Ex-Plants

Planted a dozen of these in spring 2012 along the gravel garden edge for early spring color.

They will spread and drape. I think I still need more for a greater effect around the gravel area.

After flowering cut them back by 1/2 to keep a tidy shape. They may melt out in hot summer heat.
May 6, 2012, first planted

They spread out and bloomed bright yellow in 2013.  The color combination is nice with the deep red of the smokebush coming out, and some white daffodils.

After blooming they get ratty looking, and disappear completely. I took many out and cut back the rest, but I think there will be plenty next year, they do spread about. I'm finding quite a few in the gravel popping up.
May 2013

Well, this didn't work out in 2014. These plants all but disappeared. One or two little clumps remain, but nothing else and no big golden show like the previous year.

Not quite explants yet but almost.

2015: these did not come back at all. Definitely explants.
