Nepeta faassenii / Catmint

Nepeta faassenii
'Dropmore'

Planted in 2010. 'Dropmore' is lower, a compact nepeta.  Don’t fertilize them, they get too tall in fertile soil. Shear back stems by a half after the first flowers open for compact growth and heavy rebloom.

In 2013 the nepeta was showy and very purple.

I keep taking the same photo shots of this catmint, but it is reliably lovely each year.

In spring the catmint offers a soft blue haze at the front of the garden.

By late summer the hazy purple with blue tinged foliage repeats all the purple going on around it from a butterfly bush with bluish foliage, a big purple aster, garden phlox -- all a little too much purple I think!.

Late in the season it dries and flops a bit, still looking soft as it browns.
